Awakening Your Creative Spirit: Unlock Your Artistic Potential

Learn and practice strategies to jumpstart your creative process, whether you are just starting out with artistic expression, experiencing art block, or want to rejuvenate your journey of self-development. 

This is a five week class in CCC's art studio for personal creative development- balancing art methods/ tools and individualized creative expression. We will create Mandalas, Collage Cards, Art Journal pages, and Ensos as methods of calming, reflection, creative meditation, and self-definition. You will also learn techniques for centering and focusing to find and harness the flow in your creative process. 

Dr. Michelle Gray has over 40 years of experience working in Expressive Arts and Coaching. She has recently retired from her Depth Psychology and Marriage and Family practices, and is now focusing on providing Authentic Path and Journey Coaching to those making transitions (retirement, kids launching, divorce, new career, new environs).  Michelle is a Professional Certified Coach accredited by the International Coaching Federation, the Gold Standard for Coaches. She is also a working artist and a Grantee of ART-X, Flagstaff's Premier Art Festival.  Her current Installation "Dreamscapes Unveiled"  will be featured at the Open Doors Art Studio through June, with talks/workshops held throughout the city of Flagstaff.  Learn more about Michelle here:  https://www.drmichellegray.com/ 

A Healthier Brain, A Healthier You

This class is designed to educate, inspire and support you on your quest to live a healthier, more intentional and fulfilling life. You’ll be introduced to current research on brain health and learn about adopting lifestyle changes in order to improve and support brain health.

Each class will incorporate activities, brain games, and strategies for creating better brain health. You’ll participate in weekly assignments and challenges for lifestyle changes. We’ll start ‘Growth Groups’ where participants will be given opportunities to actively support one another with weekly check-in’s, reflections and celebrations.

Karen has over thirty years of college teaching at NAU and Arizona Western College; she has also taught community education classes at CCC and Yavapai College. She is currently focused in the area of Health and Wellness. Karen has received certification as a health coach and a brain health coach. She has a Master of Arts in Education from NAU.

Comet Walk - Cinder Lakes

On this Comet Walk, Lowell Observatory Historian Kevin Schindler will lead us through one of the Cinder Lakes astronaut training sites. Cinder Lake Crater Field #1 was designed to mimic one of the potential sites where Apollo 11 would land. Come learn about the rover prototype testing that occurred here as well as the Apollo astronaut training in northern Arizona.

Kevin has worked at Lowell Observatory for nearly 30 years. He’s been an active member of the Flagstaff history and science communities, having served as Sheriff of the Flagstaff Corral of Westerners International for 13 years and on the board of the Flagstaff Festival of Science for a similar length of time.  He’s written several books, including (with author Bill Sheehan) Northern Arizona Space Training - Images of America, which details the work conducted in Flagstaff and northern Arizona to prepare for human exploration of the moon. In this DIY workshop you'll learn how to maintain the HVAC system in your home! Learn about:

  • Filters - why they are important, different types, and how and when to replace them. 
  • Themostats - can you replace them yourself, or do you need a professional; best locations, and strategies for programming.
  • Safety - keep the area around your furnace or outdoor section clear and safe.
  • Cleaning your furnace.
  • Cleaning, changing, adjusting registers.

CCC Instructor Steve Hanson started in the HVAC business in Colorado working for his father-in-law who taught him many things including doing things the right way the first time, and the principles behind the way things are done. In Flagstaff he worked for Hayes Heating and Air Conditioning for many years until they closed in 2008, and that’s when Steve started his own company, Flagstaff Comfort Systems. As an owner, one of things he enjoys most is educating and helping his customers understand their HVAC system so they can be comfortable in their homes.

The workshop is on Monday, Aug. 5 and Tuesday, Aug 6. 2:30 - 5:30 p.m.

Save energy and save money! Prepare your home or office for the cold season. Learn strategies to reduce drafts, keep warm air in and cold air out, where to caulk, adding weatherstripping, insulation, and other ways to reduce your energy consumption.

Instructor Ken Myers leads CCC Construction Technology Program. He teaches classes in construction supervision, carpentry, plumbing and electrical. He runs CCC’s construction lab and maintains all associated tools and equipment.

The workshop is on Wednesday, Aug. 7 and Wednesday, Aug. 8. 2:30 - 5:30 p.m.
